In 2012, Westbrook signed a five-year rookie extension with Oklahoma valued at $78.6 million. Once again, this deal was fully guaranteed, with Westbrooks’s average annual salary increasing from $4.1 million to $15.7 million.
His highest-earning year on the deal was 2015, when he earned $16.7 million before the final year of the contract was voided to negotiate a new deal.
In 2016, he signed a three-year veteran extension with the Thunder valued at $85.6 million. His average annual salary almost doubled, earning him $26.5 million in 2016 and $28.5 million in 2017.
In 2018, Westbrook signed his first nine-figure contract, skipping the 100s entirely and going straight for a five-year $206.8 million agreement at Oklahoma.
Under the new deal, Westbrook would only play for one season with Oklahoma before being traded to the Houston Rockets in 2019. He earned $37.3 million with the Rockets before playing for the Washington Wizards in 2020, earning $40.2 million.
In 2021, he moved to the Los Angeles Lakers, earning $44.2 million for the year.

Endorsem*nts
During his career, Russell Westbrook has become one of the league’s highest-endorsed players, earning an estimated $35 million/year through endorsem*nts alone. The majority share of that figure comes from his 15-year relationship with Nike, which began in 2013.
Westbrook’s initial Nike endorsem*nt under the Jordan brand had a length of five years; in 2017, Nike offered him a 10-year extension. According to Forbes, Westbrook earns an estimated $12 million/year from the deal.
His first signature shoe was released that same year, and it bucked the typical naming trend from most signature shoe lines. Instead, Russell’s shoe was called the Jordan Why Not. Since signing his mega-extension, Westbrook has released six signature Jordan shoes.
In addition to his Jordan deal, Westbrook has also been active with various commercial work and brand advertisem*nts, including the following:
- Ozarka Water (2011)
- Footlocker Commercial (2017)
- Men in Black: International Movie Promo (2019)
- True Religion
- Mountain Dew
- Pepto Bismol
- Hennessey
- BancFirst
Westbrook is estimated to have earned nearly $200 million in his career just from endorsem*nts. He now earns more yearly money through endorsem*nts and sponsorships than his NBA salary.

Favorite Quotes from Russell Westbrook
“Once you put in all the work pre-practice and post-practice and see it in a game and see it in play, that’s a great feeling.”
Russell Westbrook
“Messy stuff irritates me. I don’t like messiness. If you leave something around my house, I’ll tell you to move it back, clean it up, throw it in the trash – don’t matter, just get rid of it. I need stuff neat, organized. And once I start cleaning stuff, I don’t stop until it’s done. Otherwise, I’m irritated all day.” – Russell Westbrook
“If I get to know somebody, I’ll open up, but other than that I like to sit back and observe things.” – Russell Westbrook
“Because [Russel Westbrook] is so rare and impacts the game in so many different ways, you see the usage and the amount of time he’s playing and say, ‘is this sustainable?’ I look at it the other way. Are we playing the right way, are we playing together as a team, and what are his minutes like? This is not a guy that’s playing 42 minutes a night. When he goes out there he’s going to play to who he is, and I think he also understands that in order for our team to be the best we can be he’s got to incorporate and help everybody grow as players.” – Russell Westbrook
