What’s the best way of cooking wings?

Wings can be cooked in many ways, each with their unique style. Fried wings have a great crunch factor, but added fat. Grilled wings have a great smokey flavor, but they’re best saved for nice weather for grilling.

Baked chicken wings get a slow-roasted flavor and the broiler can be used to get a nice crispy exterior.

Easy chicken wing recipe

These baked chicken wings are an easy and fuss-free appetizer. No hot oil and no lengthy marinades or messy dry rubs, you just pop them in the oven and let them do their thing!

This easy recipe uses just a handful of basic ingredients, and you will have a tasty chicken platter on the table in no time!

How long to bake chicken wings?

I baked these chicken wings at 400ºf for just over 30 minutes and they were perfectly cooked and crispy. If you have a meat or instant read thermometer, the temperature for cooked chicken is 165ºf.

The chicken wings should be served to the table immediately along with your favorite dips and side salads.

Make it Easy

Whenever possible, I recommend buying the wings already separated into the wingette (also known as the flat) and the drummette. This saves time and frustration and, in my experience, is worth the extra dollar-or-so per pound.

More Top Tips

  • Put the wings into a pre-heated oven for maximum crispiness!
  • Use fresh herbs as a garnish.
  • Use organic / free range chicken.

Should you season chicken wings before cooking? ›

Prevent Sticking. Grilled wings are the perfect tailgate food whether you're cooking them in a parking lot or your backyard. Toss the wings in a few tablespoons of neutral cooking oil (like canola or vegetable oil), then season with salt and pepper before adding them to the grill.

Do you bake chicken wings with baking powder or flour? ›

The magic ingredient to crispy wings without a lot of oil is aluminium free baking powder. It may sounds unappealing, but coating chicken wings in seasoned baking powder is what makes the skin super crispy.

Do you marinate chicken wings before or after cooking? ›

We like a Mediterranean-inspired mix of oregano, rosemary, salt, pepper, garlic, and olive oil, but any fresh marinade will help infuse the wings with flavor down to the bone. Resealable plastic bags are your friend here; combine the marinade and wings in one and let it sit for at least an hour before grilling.

How do you get sauce to stick to baked wings? ›

However, there's a simple technique that can help the maximum amount of sauce coat every inch of the wing's surface area: Dusting chicken wings with flour before cooking. This easy step transforms the wings into a canvas that both promotes a crispy texture and ensures that the sauce clings irresistibly to every inch.

Is it better to bake chicken wings at 350 or 400? ›

Baking at a higher temperature will result in crispy skin in a shorter amount of time—which is why 400 is a better option. However, 425F is the best option. A 350° F oven will still result in crispy skin, it will just take longer to crisp and cook all the way through.

Add sauce at the very end to maintain and maximize wing crispiness. As for the baking stage, make sure to dry your chicken wings with paper towels before you put them in the oven.
